Brazilian artist Conrado Zanotto believes in a world where everything manifested is related to time and space. For contemporary science, we are literally made of fragments of stardust, traveling at the speed of light on a quantum scale.
Zanotto, as an artist working between science and magic, proposes a deeper look at the energetic influences in our lives and a search for empirical knowledge based on ancestral teachings, inspired by internal and external synapses that discuss reality as we know it, and resulting in works that draw attention to subjective connections dear to each spectator.
This artist is interested in worldviews in which aspects of nature, social environments, daily life, behavioural patterns and psyche intersect. His works propose rituals that shorten the distance between art and the public by adopting the contrasts between the ephemeral and the durable, and in order to reveal the power of universal language in art as an exercise of infinite possibilities.
World-renowned Brazilian artist Anna Maria Maiolino inspired him by saying that "the variation of the supports prolongs the discourse of the work", and that "the concepts are placed in a rhizomatic way". Zanotto propose a deeper look at the energetic influences in our lives and a search for empirical knowledge based on ancestral teachings, inspired by internal and external synapses that discuss reality as we know it, resulting in works that call attention to subjective connections dear to the spectators. I reveal studies on the worldview, with intersections between aspects of nature, social environments, daily life, behaviors and psyche.
The materials used in Zanotto’s works are countless: he loves to accumulate things, reframe objects and create dialogues between different disciplines. The pieces take on varied forms, designed to attract participant eyes, to activate thoughts, create unpredictable associations and provide a chance to challenge perceptions. And a dash of humor is also always welcome.
Zanotto holds a BA in Social Communication, Advertising & Marketing (ESPM, São Paulo), and an MA in Art Practice from the prestigious Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado, (FAAP, São Paulo). His works are in Latin American art collections such as the Oficina del Historiador, owned by UNESCO,
in the city of Havana, Cuba. He holds an Art Award from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, and in 2012
he founded PONDER70, an art space in São Paulo.
